Expect Nothing Less Than What You Want

You can't get what you don't ask for. You can't expect to get what you want if you don't take action to achieve it. I believe great athletes set their expectations for what they want to achieve and then they expect it to happen. Everything they do is geared towards making it happen. I think if you have this mindset, then you will be expecting the outcome you desire and you will work towards those goals.

Just expecting to get what you want is only the start. That isn't enough. You then have to go out and put in the hard work that is required. To be good or great at something most definitely requires extra. Extra dedication, extra motivation, extra effort..more than what most are doing. It takes that twinkle in the eye, that spark, that fire in the belly to generate the drive needed to go that extra step.

People say they want to get better but often times aren't willing to take on the work that is needed to achieve this. Yes, playing good golf involves so many different aspects and each takes time to work on. Just working on your swing can feel like enough! Not to mention managing your mental game, developing good course management skills, fitness, practice habits, etc. It all can be very overwhelming if you look at it all at once.

The key is break it into chunks. Separate out areas that you need to work on and take on small amounts at a time. Focus your attention on one thing, get a handle on it and add something else until over time you have built yourself a good foundation for your game. Set goals, have a plan, chip away piece by piece and achieve.

When I started playing golf, I wanted to get better. As I started to improve, I then started to wonder how much lower can I get my handicap. I set my expectation or my goal to be a scratch handicap. I thought if I could start stringing pars together, avoiding double bogeys and make more birdies, I could shoot lower scores. I could be a scratch golfer. I set my expectations to achieve this goal. I worked at it whether it was at the course or at my job or home. When I couldn't physically swing a club, I imagined what I needed to do to hit that shot or to make that putt. I worked it out in my mind so that when I showed up to practice, I could then carry out what I had been envisioning.

If you are setting your standards for excellence at the level you want to be at, then you will not accept anything less. When you expect nothing less than what you want, your actions will be tailored towards making it happen. Your brain will find ways to find solutions that will meet your goals.

If your desire is to be a scratch golfer, then figure out what you need to do to get there. And don't settle for anything less. If you are stuck shooting in the 90's and really want to break 90, figure out what you need to do to make that happen.

Perseverance is key here. Come up with a goal, a strategy and a plan to reach that goal and go get it done. If you want to learn more about the program I created to do just this, check out my Break 70 Roadmap program with the link below.

Expect nothing less than what you want!

Be awesome!
