Oxnard's Sherry Wright earns spot in U.S. Women's Mid-Am Championship

Oxnard resident Sherry Wright earned a spot in next month’s United States Women’s Mid-Amateur Championship with a strong performance at the sectional qualifying tournament at South Hills Country Club in West Covina.

Wright finished with a 6-over-par 79 to tie for seventh, easily advancing  to the Mid-Amateur Championship at Quail Creek Country Club in Naples, Florida, on Oct. 7-12.

Wright warmed up for the Mid-Am sectional by winning the Olivas Ladies Club Championship for the fifth straight year. She posted rounds of 73-71 to finish at even-par 144.

Curdt honored

Alison Curdt, the director of instruction at Wood Ranch Golf Club, has been named one of America’s top 50 instructors by the Ladies Professional Golf Association Teaching and Professionals membership.

Curdt and the other teachers chosen were selected from the more than 1,700 LPGA certified professionals worldwide.

“The LPGA is excited to partner with Women's Golf Journal on this annual recognition,” said LPGA Chief Teaching Officer Nancy Henderson. “More than 70 percent of our members teach the game of golf for a living and they are dedicated to the advancement of golf through teaching golfers of all ages and abilities to enjoy the game of golf."
